ABOUT THE ENGINEERING TEAM
Our engineering team comes from a variety of backgrounds but have a common interest of contributing to the embedded fintech ecosystem and propelling Zeal forward in technical innovation. The first thing a team member notices when they join is how easy it is to get spun up onto the codebase and the support they receive to get their first PR merged!
As an Engineering Manager, you will be overseeing and supporting the team that makes Zeal's product possible. You will enable all members of the Engineering team to realize their full potential.

HOW DOES HYBRID WORK @ ZEAL?
This role is a San Francisco-based role where you get to meet 1-on-1 with all team members 2-3x a week.
SOME THINGS YOU MAY BE WORKING ON
- Managing a team of about 10 engineers (and adding more!), empowering the team to own as much responsibility as possible. Coaching more junior engineers and acting as a technical leader to the team.
- You will identify areas the team needs technical guidance and proactively solve those roadblocks.
- You will get to own a large scope of the product engineering road map in our taxes/compliance, payments, white-label components, and service tooling, and (soon to be more) areas of Zeal’s business.
- You will act as an essential link between business and engineering and will translate between the two worlds - managing product timelines, strategic planning, cross-team meetings with the aim of pushing Zeal’s API-forward payroll product to success.
- You will build strong relationships with engineers, product managers, designers, and key stakeholders to collaboratively help alleviate Zeal’s current and future technology offerings.
- You will be a pivotal part of building the future of Zeal’s engineering department and culture - so in addition to managing our current awesome engineers, you will contribute to hiring forecasting, building a robust pipeline of engineering talent, participating in evaluating and interviewing engineering candidates, and being an ally to our recruiting team!
YOU HAVE
- 4+ years of software experience
- Ideally about 3+ years management experience but if you have less we encourage you to apply!
- You're comfortable with Zeal's stack (Typescript—React, Node)
- Superb communication and project management skills
- You are an empathetic leader + value working in a diverse and collaborative environment
NICE-TO-HAVE
- Experience working in payroll or fin-tech software development
- You're passionate about the fin-tech or HR landscape
